Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports reports that there is some speculation around the league that the Mets might hire Omar Minaya as the team’s next general manager.

Heyman notes that Minaya currently is playing a significant role in the hiring process for the team’s next GM and that he has the Wilpons’ ear.

However, there are people who believe that Minaya might actually not have any interest in taking the position and the guess, in this case, is that he doesn’t.

Minaya, 59, was the Mets’ general manager from 2005-2010 and while he signed some bad free agency deals such as that of Jason Bay, but was also responsible for international signings such as Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares as well as drafting Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey.

The former Expos and Mets GM rejoined the organization as a special assistant to the GM this offseason with his focus largely going towards revamping the farm system, especially in the international scouting portion.

Currently, he is part of a three-headed monster for GM that includes J.P. Ricciardi and John Ricco as well.

Heyman also mentioned that Sandy Alderson is currently receiving job offers elsewhere for next season.
