The New York Mets (61-75) took the rubber game of the series against the San Francisco Giants (68-70) with a 4-1 win at AT@T Park thanks to the great pitching of Noah Syndergaard.
Pitching
Noah Syndergaard pitched for the Mets and he provided a very dominant outing. He breezed through his first seven hitters before Alen Hanson tripled on a ball that got by a diving Brandon Nimmo. He came around to score but Syndergaard settled in quite nicely after that.
He worked around a hit by Evan Longoria in the fourth. After that, the Giants could barely touch him. Syndergaard retired nine in a row at one point. In the seventh, Jay Bruce could not field a ball cleanly and that was San Fransisco’s only baserunner after the fourth.
In the eighth, Noah struck out two guys and the last pitch clocked in at 99 MPH. A satisfied Mickey Callaway decided to let him try the ninth inning. He struck out Gregor Blanco, got Joe Panik to pop up, and struck out Evan Longoria with a 99 MPH fastball to end it. A friendly reminder that a dominant Noah is un-hittable. His final line was: 9 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 11 K.
Offense
The offense got going early against the Giants. In the second, Todd Frazier doubled and Michael Conforto homered to Barry Bonds territory.
The offense was quiet after that until the seventh inning. Todd Frazier doubled once again and Brandon Nimmo walked to give the Mets a prime scoring chance but Austin Jackson grounded into a double play.
In the eighth, Tomas Nido and Amed Rosario recorded hits and came home to score on Jeff McNeil‘s single. McNeil had two hits for the Mets today.
On Deck
The Mets head down to LA to face the Dodgers. Jacob deGrom (8-8, 1.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets against Alex Wood (8-6, 3.42 ERA). The game will start at 8:10 p.m. and air on SNY.
