Check out this beautiful photograph of Johan Santana by Adam Rubin of the Daly News. (via The Ropolitans)

Despite all the ups and downs, and ranting and raving of this never-ending off season, you look at a photo like that and everything else almost seems to melt away.

Santana after his pitching session, “This is big for me. I feel very happy I’m very excited about this season.”

Adam reports that Santana threw 24 pitches and was very pleased with his session. He was able to extend fully with his left elbow. Santana underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in September, but yesterday he vowed that he will take the mound on Opening Day.

Ken Davidoff tweets that Johan Santana didn’t throw very hard, but looked fine physically. Santana said that the plan calls for him to start pitching in exhibition games in the second week of March.

We can talk all we want about getting another starter or catcher or first baseman, but none of it means anything without a healthy Johan Santana. Today’s news definitely makes us all breathe a little easier. LGM
