Rejoice, For I Am Sending You A Savior.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Matt Harvey will be wearing uniform No. 33 when he makes his debut on Thursday night in Arizona.

His customary No. 43 is of course already taken by R.A. Dickey.

MetsBlog posted that Terry Collins said the plan is to keep Matt Harvey in the rotation for the remainder of the season.

Don’t laugh, but Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson also got together with Harvey and spoke with him “about the pressure of being a savior”.

And all this time, I thought that Sandy alone was lord and savior. How blessed we are to have not one, but two saviors.

Collins believes that all this savior business is why Harvey pitched so poorly in his start on Saturday for Buffalo in which he allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks.

I incorrectly assumed the poor results stemmed from a lack of command and that his fast ball was up in the zone all night, as Wally Backman pointed out after the game. I apologize for the confusion.

Seriously, now that the decision has been made, I look forward to watching him pitch all season long. I know there will be growing pains, but this is exciting nonetheless.

I will aslo have to update that graphic in time for his start on Thursday. Hmm 33… I kind of like that number for him… Hopefully he’ll have better luck with it than John Maine did… Much better luck…
