The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs tonight at an electric Citi Field by a score of 4-2, and in the process take an early 1-0 lead in the NLCS.

Offense:

Mr. Clutch – Daniel Murphy – continued his hot hitting as he blasted his fourth home run of the postseason off of Jon Lester, a solo shot in the first inning to give the Mets an early 1-0.

After the Cubs had tied the game in the fifth, the Mets answered right back in the bottom half of the frame as Curtis Granderson drove in Juan Lagares on a single to center.

In the sixth inning, Travis d’Arnaud extended the Mets lead to 3-1 by hitting a no doubt home run to dead central.

Curtis Granderson then drove in his seventh run of the postseason and second of the night on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

This would prove to be a valuable insurance run, as the Mets would complete the win, by a score of 4-2.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey brought his A-game to the ballpark this evening at Citi Field, in a nice bounce back performance from his start against the Dodgers on Monday.

The Dark Knight went 7.2 innings, allowing only two runs on four hits, while striking out nine and walking two.

Jeurys Familia then came in for a four out save, after pitching on only one day’s rest after recording a six out save Thursday. Regardless, Familia was able to shut down the Cubs and seal the win for the Mets as they take a 1-0 lead in the series.
