Matt Harvey is in the midst of a spectacular season, his first full one in the major leagues. But as he showed on Tuesday night against the Dodgers, even he is susceptible to an occasional hiccup now and then.
The Mets’ ace lacked command of his off-speed pitches and the Dodgers made him pay by tagging Harvey for four runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. His ERA took a hit rising from 2.09 to 2.23, but it’s still second only to Clayton Kershaw.
“I just couldn’t locate anything. If I tried to go in, it was over the middle, and when I tried to go away, I was yanking it a little bit. Against a good team like that, if you’re not hitting your spots or making quality pitches, they’re going to put the ball in play, and tonight they found holes. I’m not happy about it, but I have to move forward.”
He’ll be back next against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, and knowing him, expect a dominating bounce-back performance.
