The Mets lost to the Padres 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park to wrap up their 11 game west coast road trip with a 6-5 record.
Matt Harvey made his third start of the season for the Mets and took some lumps for the first time since his promotion. The young righty allowed five runs including a pair of two-run homers to Chase Headley and Yonder Alonso before capping his outing after five innings. He let up eight hits, walked one, and fanned five while throwing 81 pitches – 50 of them for strikes. There will be more growing pains, but lets see how he bounces back on Friday.
Ramon Ramirez surrendered another pair of runs in relief on three hits, a home run and a walk in 1.2 innings. His ERA climbs to 4.47 for the season.
The Mets got on the board after Mike “The Walking Man” Baxter drew a free pass to open the sixth and scored on a pinch-hit two-run homer by Ronny Cedeno to bring the Mets within three runs.
The Mets got their third run on a Jason Bay sac-fly in the seventh, but make no mistake he was awful on this road trip going 2-for-31.
David Wright went 0-for-4, and he went 0-for-10 for the three game series. He’s now batting .325 for the year.
