A Happy Birthday to David Wright, who turns 39 today.

As you all know, the former captain was forced to retire due to chronic health issues, but remains very involved and devoted to the team.

As we take in all the incredible moves the Mets have made this offseason, including the additions of Max Scherzer and newly named manager Buck Showalter, I’m reminded of how excited Wright was after Steve Cohen purchased the team.

“Just the passion that he has for the Mets, the knowledge that he has for the game. … I think he’s going to be able to build a sustained winner, hopefully for years to come,” Wright said.

David says he keeps in contact with the players in the clubhouse on a “weekly basis” while watching the games and rooting for the team.

“I certainly want to see the team have sustained success, and not just setting their sights on an NL East crown every year, but winning the National League and getting the chance to play in the World Series on a consistent basis.”

Wright played his final game in 2018, but not before he established himself as one of the best players in franchise history.

The seven-time All-Star is first among all-time Mets in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs and walks, while ranking second in WAR and home runs.

David Wright will always hold a special place in every Met fan’s heart. His classy demeanor, confident leadership, and love of the team will always be remembered and he is dearly missed.

This day’s for you, Captain… HappyBirthday!
