The KBO’s number one slugger is on the cusp of coming to Major League Baseball.
The Hanwha Eagles accepted Roh Si-hwan’s request to be posted, and has informed the MLB’s commissioner’s office to post the third baseman. Once MLB posts Si-hwan, all 30 major league teams will be allowed to negotiate a contract with him for 30 days starting at 8 AM the following morning.

The news comes after Si-hwan signed the largest contract in KBO history. Prior to the 2026 season, he was extended on an 11-year, 30.7 billion won contract, which converts to a 11-year, $23.02 million contract in USD. The deal eclipsed both length and value for a contract in the league’s history.
Si-hwan will be an intriguing addition to MLB’s free agent market ahead of the 2027 season. He’s been on of the most prolific home run hitters in the KBO over the last four seasons, totaling 116 longballs since 2023 while reaching the 30 homer mark in two of those seasons. The stretch also includes a stellar 2023 where Si-hwan led the KBO with 31 homers.
2026 was also another consistent season for Si-hwan. He slashed .283/.360/.505 with 29 homers, 96 RBI, and 51 walks. It was the third consecutive season that Si-hwan had posted an OPS over .800, and first season posting a slugging percentage above .500.
Si-hwan will get a chance to prove whether or not his skills can translate to the majors. The one concerning aspect of his game are his strikeout totals. Si-hwan has struck out over 100 times the past four seasons, and posted a season high 147 in 2026.
Here is the statement that his agency posted after the news.
“Roh Si-hwan has applied for posting to pursue his long-cherished dream of advancing to the Major Leagues. At a young age, this is a precious opportunity, and he will approach this challenge with humility and sincerity.”
“The Major Leagues have always been a goal Roh Si-hwan has held as a baseball player. The desire to grow as a player by learning and competing in a new environment formed the basis of this decision. We are grateful for the chance to pursue this long-held dream and will prepare calmly. We deeply thank the Hanwha Eagles for respecting the player’s dream and opening this opportunity.”
