curtis granderson

Curtis Granderson has been the Mets’ hottest hitter in the month of June, batting .361 in 44 plate appearances. Just when you think he is going to turn his season around, he comes up lame with a calf injury and is held out from Thursday’s game. He did pinch hit for Gonzalez Germen in the 11th inning, but was intentionally walked and then Zack Wheeler replaced him as a pinch runner.

Jim Baumbach of Newsday reports that Terry Collins chose to hold Granderson out of the lineup on Thursday rather than risk losing him long term, and told his surging outfielder, “I’ll lose you for one or two days because I don’t want to lose you for two weeks.”

The calf injury doesn’t seem to be serious which is good news for the Mets, “No pops, no snaps, nothing like that. “More just an annoyance and soreness right now,” Granderson tells Baumbach.

A few days without Grandy’s hot bat in the line-up may not be good news for the Mets, but it’s better than a few months.
