curtis granderson

Curtis Granderson, who returned to the starting lineup for the first time in three games due to a left calf injury, homered and was 2-for-3 with two walks in Sunday’s 3-1 Mets victory.

“I just tried to get myself on base and try to get the team going,” Granderson told Adam Rubin of ESPN NY after the game. “I’ve done it plenty of times in my career. I just didn’t know it was going to be today.”

“Curtis getting us out of the gate was huge,” Collins tells David Lennon of Newsday.

Lennon adds that Granderson has hit leadoff (568 games), more than anywhere else in the lineup during his 11-year career, batting .270/.343/.483 entering Sunday’s game.

The Mets may have found the ideal lead-off hitter until Lagares returns, but now they need to find a power bat for the middle of the lineup. Easier said than done.
