The Mets’ general manager search could possibly be coming to an end, SNY‘s Andy Martino reported today that the team is closer to choosing a general manager.

Sandy Alderson noted last week that the Mets will not hire a president of baseball operations this offseason and the organization has focused in on looking for a general manager for the 2022 season.

With regards to the specifics of the search, MMO’s Michael Mayer reported that the interest in former Washington Nationals assistant GM Adam Cromie has “cooled” and there hasn’t been much traction as of late. He previously met with Sandy Alderson and Steve Cohen recently but a formal offer was not made.

Cromie, who worked in various analytics roles within the Washington Nationals organization, is still seen as a candidate for the GM spot.

A name that was also mentioned is former Angels GM Billy Eppler.

Eppler, who was mentioned as candidate for a Mets front office job previously, is currently being looked into again by the organization for the GM position. According to Martino, the Mets have “increased their digging” and Mayer reports that Eppler’s name has been mentioned as well.

Before his position as GM with the Angels, Eppler served as a scouting director and assistant GGM under Brian Cashman with the New York Yankees.

We’re entering week seven of the offseason, and the Mets have been attached to over 20 names to help fill a primary front office role.
