gee-and-montero

According to Terry Collins, Dillon Gee is not in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation, despite Rafael Montero starting Tuesday against the Marlins.

Collins told reporters in Bismarck, North Dakota Miami he has the “biggest pain in the ass job there is” because of media speculation Gee could get bumped by Montero.

“I hope he pitches good,” Collins said about Gee. “I hope he pitches a “sucking” no hitter.”

The strong likelihood is that Montero returns to the minors after the start to continue pitching in Triple-A Las Vegas’ rotation. (Adam Rubin, ESPN New York)

Thoughts:

Gee is coming off a solid start against the Braves in which he allowed two runs in seven innings. I suspect he bought himself some time after a very rocky start to the season.

Still, Gee will have to continue pitching well to keep his hold, not only because of Rafael Montero, but because of Steven Matz who is coming on strong.
