Mets starter Dillon Gee got off to a blazing 8-1 start in his rookie season, but by the time August rolled around he was mired in a big slide that lasted until the end of the season. After posting a remarkable 3.32 ERA in the first half, the young right-hander finished with a 5.91 ERA over his final 10 starts.

According to an interview he did with the Daily News, Gee hopes that adding some muscle will help him avoid the fatigue he believes ruined his fast start.

“There clearly was some fatigue, but it was really tough to put a finger on one thing that led to all that inconsistency. I think experience is going to play a big factor in that, knowing what to expect over a full season in the major leagues, how grueling it is, knowing how to deal a little better with the fatigue and all the pressure and stuff like that.”

Gee also spent the offseason improving the command of his fastball and changeup, but also worked hard on his curveball, which he ended up abandoning last season.

Gee will be back in the No. 5 spot in the rotation, where Terry Collins hopes to get 30 starts out of him this season.
