Mets shortstop prospect Gavin Cecchini was scheduled to play for Team USA in the first annual Premier 12 Tournament taking place in Asia. The tournament actually started yesterday but USA doesn’t have its first game until tomorrow against the Dominican Republic. Cecchini was on the preliminary roster before being scratched last week according to a source. Today Adam Rubin tweeted that he was removed because of a shoulder injury without any information about severity.

Cecchini was playing in the Arizona Fall League and was hitting .385/.529/.462 in four games before suffering the injury. He last played for the Salt River Rafters on October 20th and has been removed from their roster as well.

Gavin is coming off a breakout year in which he batted .317/.377/.442 for the AA Binghamton Mets while being named the Eastern League Rookie of the Year as well as playing in the leagues all-star game.

First base prospect Dominic Smith was scratched from the Arizona Fall Stars roster this weekend with what they are calling a minor leg injury. He is batting .385/.519/.564 with four doubles, homerun, five RBI and 12 walks in 12 games for the Rafters so far. My #3 Mets prospect was the Florida State League MVP after hitting .305/.354/.417 with a league leading 33 doubles and 79 RBI for the St. Lucie Mets.

Both Smith and Cecchini won the Mets Sterling Award for being the most valuable players on their teams during the 2015 season.
