The Mets had an off-day yesterday, which is weird considering it’s a National Holiday and that they had an off-day on Monday but whatever. Glad the bullpen could get extra rest and hope the players had time to relax with friends and family. The Mets are back at it tonight after splitting the series with the Yankees (thus also splitting the season series with the Yankees).

Jacob deGrom brings us back for the final weekend of baseball before the All-Star break. He is 4-7 over 17 games and 103.0 innings with a 3.32 ERA, 3.12 FIP, 1.107 WHIP and 123 ERA+. He is coming off a fairly average start against the Braves where he allowed three runs over 6.0 innings and in his last eight starts has posted a 2.65 ERA over 51.0 innings. Jacob hasn’t faced the Phillies at all this year and last year allowed only one run, unearned, over 18.0 innings in three starts against them. The Phillies have the following stats against deGrom:

The Mets bats will get a look at Vince Velasquez who is 2-5 over 19 games and 9 starts with 51.1 innings of work posting a 4.73 ERA, 5.37 FIP, 1.422 WHIP, and 96 ERA+. He has had one good start (1 run, 5.0 innings) and two poor starts (combined 6.2 innings, 8 runs) since returning to the rotation on June 16th. He was a starter the last time he faced the Mets in April, holding the Mets scoreless over 5.0 innings in probably his best start of the season. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Game Notes

The Mets have won 22 of their last 31 series against the Phillies, and are 52-32 against Philadelphia since the start of the 2015 season. They have won the season series in seven consecutive years dating back to 2012, which is the longest streak of consecutive season-series wins versus one team in Mets franchise history, according to Elias.

Jeff McNeil has recorded the third most hits in the majors through 500 career at-bats since 1935, with 170 hits, behind only Wade Boggs (178) and Joe DiMaggio (171).

The Mets have homered in 13 straight games, the third time this season that the team has homered in 10 or more consecutive games. This ties their previous season high of 13 games from June 1-15. It’s the second time in franchise history that the Mets have homered in 10 or more straight games three separate times in a season, the last time occurring in 2016.

In June, Jacob deGrom became the first pitcher in Mets history to strike out at least 50 batters while walking five or fewer in a single month, as he fanned 51 and walked only four. Only Max Scherzer and Chris Sale have also accomplished that feat this season, and only 25 pitchers have done it since 1908.

Let’s Go Mets!
