Friday night was one of the most memorable Mets games since 2015. Down three runs in the fourth, the Mets hit back to back homers (Alonso and Davis) to tie the game up. The Mets went into the bottom of the ninth down three runs, again.

Two quick hits and Todd Frazier came up and sent a ball 437 feet down the line above where Gary, Keith, and Ron were calling the game. Tie game. Then Conforto later in the inning hit a ball deep into the outfield to win the game! It was the first time the Mets won after trailing in the eighth inning all season.

You probably knew all of this, but it was just fun to rehash it.

On Saturday night, Noah Syndergaard looks to keep the series moving in the right direction. Noah is 8-5 over 22 starts and 141.0 innings with a 3.96 ERA, 3.44 FIP, 1.206 WHIP, and 104 ERA+. In his last five starts, he has pitched 35.1 innings allowing nine runs, seven earned, from 27 hits and eight walks while striking out 39 batters. This has translated to a 1.78 ERA and opponents having a .209 BA, .257 OBP and .559 OPS against Syndergaard. So far Syndergaard has faced the Nationals three times this season totaling 20 innings with a 3.60 ERA. The Nationals have the following stats against Noah:

The Mets bats draw Patrick Corbin, the big off-season acquisition for the Nationals. On the season he is 9-5 over 23 starts and 141.2 innings with a 3.43 ERA, 3.25 FIP, 1.172 WHIP, and 134 ERA+. He’s coming off of a rough start where he allowed five runs over 5.1 innings and in his last five games, he has pitched 28.1 innings with a 3.81 ERA while opponents have a .266 BA, .328 OBP and .750 OPS against him. In four games against the Mets this year, he has been his average season self, pitching 25 innings with a 3.60 ERA. Two games have good, one was great, and the other was pretty terrible. But these games were in April and May and the Mets (and the Nationals) are both different teams from that point. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Game Notes

The Mets have won 14 of their last 15 games. The last time the Mets went 14-1 over 15 games was 1990 when they were 16-1 from June 17-July 6, 1990. New York was also 18-1 from April 18-May 10, 1986 and 14-1 from May 7-21, 1972. The Mets were also 14-1 in an overlapping streak in 1990 (June 12-29, 1990).

Pete Alonso has homered in four consecutive games for the first time this year. He is the first Met to homer in four straight since Curtis Granderson did so from September 4-9, 2016. He became the second rookie in franchise history to
homer in four straight games, joining Larry Elliot (July 21-24, 1964). Richard Hidalgo (July 1-5, 2004) is the only Met to ever home run in five consecutive games.

Seth Lugo has not allowed a run in his last 14 appearances, going 1-0 with two saves over 15.2 innings. He has allowed only three hits and a walk and has struck out 19. Overall in 44 appearances this season, Lugo is 4-2 with two saves
and owns a 2.59 ERA (16 earned runs/55.2 innings) with 13 walks and 72 strikeouts. He has held opponents to a .192 batting average and has put up a 11.64 K/9 ratio. Lugo is tied for fourth in the NL with 72 strikeouts.

The Mets have now recorded multiple home runs in seven straight games, hitting a total of 19 home runs in that span. That matches a franchise record, also set this season (June 20-26, 17 home runs).

Amed Rosario has reached base safely in 24 of his last 27 games. He is batting .348 (57-164) with 28 runs, 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 12 RBI, nine walks, eight steals and a .893 OPS over his last 44 games (since June 17). His
.348 batting average ranks fifth in the major leagues and second in the NL in that span.

Let’s Go Mets!
