Game Notes

The Mets are 3-6 in rubber games but have won their last two rubber games (Colorado/San Francisco). New York is looking for their ninth series win of the season and their third on the road. It would mark the team’s first road series win since a three-game sweep in Miami from April 1-3.

Michael Conforto has hit in nine straight games, going 11-37 (.297) with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and three walks with a .366 OBP. It matches his career-high streak from July 27-August 5, 2017. In addition, he has
safely reached base in 14 straight games batting .296 (16-54) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, four homers, nine RBI, six walks and a .927 OPS in that span. He has recorded 41 walks this season, placing him tied for fifth in the NL. According to Fangraphs, Conforto ranks eighth among NL outfielders with a 1.9 WAR this year.

The Mets have homered in 15 of their 16 games this month, belting 27 blasts in that span. That is tied the Brewers for the third-most in the NL in June. Only the Diamondbacks (30) and the Braves (37) have hit more in the league this month.

Pete Alonso leads all rookies in homers (24), RBI (57), extra-base hits (42), slugging (.624), total bases (164), runs (46), hits (72) and walks (27). He is second among rookies in doubles (16) and is tied for third with two triples. Alonso has set a Mets rookie record with 23 home runs before the All-Star break. Ron Swoboda previously held the record with 15 homers in 1965. The overall Mets rookie record for homers in a single season is 26 achieved by Darryl Strawberry in 1983.

The Mets are third in the majors and second in NL with 418.1 innings from their starters. The team’s starting pitching staff as has tossed at least six innings in 18 of their last 20 games dating to May 28. The staff owns a 8-5 record with a 3.58 ERA (51 earned runs/128.1 innings) in that span with 33 walks and 129 strikeouts. Their 3.58 mark places them sixth in the majors in that time frame. Their 129 strikeouts are second in MLB. Overall, Mets starters have thrown at least six innings in 44 of the team’s 73 games, which is third in MLB. Only the Dodgers (47) and Astros (48) have more such games.
