Make that SIX IN A ROW!

The New York Mets (8-1) defeated the Miami Marlins (3-7) Monday evening at Marlins Park in their first game versus their division rival. Tonight’s win brings the Mets winning streak to six games; a feat they did not accomplish in 2017.

Pitching

Noah Syndergaard ended his evening with a 6 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB stat line. His fastball reached 98 mph and he tossed 54 of his 90 pitches for strikes. Thor entered tonight’s game issuing only two walks versus the Marlins for his career.

Noah breezed through the first three innings before getting into some trouble his final few frames.

He allowed the first two runners to reach base in the fourth inning but was able to evade damage with a double play started by Rosario. In the fifth inning, he gave up a bases loaded single to Derek Dietrich making the score 3-1. The Marlins cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning when Syndergaard allowed an RBI double to Brian Anderson.

Hansel Robles retired the first two batters of the seventh inning before allowing back-to-back singles to Derek Dietrich and Miguel Rojas. Robles escaped the jam with a strike out of Starlin Castro to end the inning.

Jerry Blevins faced only one batter but got him to pop out to start the bottom half of the eight inning.

AJ Ramos relieved Blevins and walked the first batter he faced. Ramos then got Cameron Maybin to fly out and Yadiel Rivera to pop out to end the eighth inning.

Jeurys Familia notched his fifth save of the young season but not without some drama. He allowed a lead off single to start the ninth and a one out double to tonight’s thorn Derek Dietrich. Familia then struck out the next two batters including Starling Castro who looked at strike three to end the game.

Offense

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one walk, and scored one run. He continued the trend of heads-up base running the team has shown this season by going first to third on a throwing error by Justin Bour in the seventh inning.

Jay Bruce went 1-for-3 with a RBI single in the third inning. He also drew a walk.

Amed Rosario continues to excel batting ninth as he ends his day going 2-for-4 with a RBI double and one run scored. He had a mixed day in field as he made a slick grab starting a double play in the fourth inning but then missed a routine ground ball the next inning.

Yoenis Cespedes went 0-for-4 while striking out three times including his AB in the seventh inning with the base loaded with only one out. He ended up leaving five Metropolitans stranded for the evening. Cespedes did throw out Braxton Lee trying to stretch a single into a double with a Statcast measured 79.7 mph laser leading off the third inning.
