Pitching

Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he was very good.

In the first, he hit Adam Eaton to begin the game. Victor Robles proceeded to hit into a double play and Syndergaard struck out Juan Soto.

In the second, he walked Anthony Rendon to begin the inning. He rebounded to get a couple of strikeouts. This actually began a streak of 12 straight retired from Noah.

In the third, he got a couple of weak grounders. He got a couple of fly outs to help him in the fourth inning again the Nats best hitters. The fifth also featured a lot of weak contact.

The sixth was when Noah had his only real struggle of the night. He gave up a lead-off single to Wilmer Difo for the first Nationals hit. Adrian Sanchez followed up with his own single. Noah managed to recompose himself and got Eaton to hit into a double play. It looked like he might get out of the inning but Victor Robles hit a two-run homer.

Noah gave up a single to leadoff the seventh which cane courtesy of Anthony Rendon. He did not let that faze him though. He blew away the next guys to face him and made Brian Dozier look silly.

With 91 pitches, Mickey let him pitch the eighth and Noah retird the side with a lot of quick outs. He had a chance at the ninth but the Mets went against that and got an extra run. His final line was: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 K.

Seth Lugo pitched the ninth and nailed down the win while getting a couple of strikeouts in the process.

Offense

The Mets offense was on the run early. Amed Rosario and Pete Alonso both singled in the first and Michael Conforto walked. The struggling Wilson Ramos came up big with a line drive grand slam to give them an early 4-0 lead.

They didn’t do much until the sixth inning though. Conforto singled and Ramos walked. Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double over the center fielder’s head to make it 5-0.

In the ninth inning, the Mets called on Dominic Smith to hit for Noah Syndergaard. He got ahead in the count, 3-0, and decided to swing. He hit 420+ feet to center field for his first home run of the season.
