The Mets lost the game and the series to the Padres tonight thanks to a poor outing by John Maine and a lack of situational hitting.
The game began with Ramon Castro behind the plate because Brian Schneider was given the night off after complaining of back and leg pain. Castro would later homer in the game.
Jake Peavy started and did everything he could to give the Mets the win in the first inning. After a Reyes single, and a Murphy walk, Carlos Delgado tagged him for a three run homer to put the Mets up 3-0.
Maine looked solid after two innings, but after working the outside of the plate during his entire stint, the Padres adjusted and it was clobberin’ time. Maine was torched for five runs in the third and when all was said and done, he finished the night allowing six runs in five innings pitched. He allowed 10 baserunners, and his ERA now stands at 7.20. (But don’t worry it’s only April)
The bullpen was fantastic, but isn’t that the way it always goes? O’Day, Feliciano, Stokes and Rodriguez all pitched a scoreless inning, with K-Rod doing it in style by striking out the side and pumping the crown up for the bottom of the ninth.
How awesome has Frankie been so far? He comes into these non-save situations and doesn’t bitch the way Wagner and Benitez did, he just does his job like a true pro. Way to go with that 0.00 ERA K-Rod!
If you watched the game, then you know that the Mets had their chances to blow the game open. Don’t they always? But, once again when they needed a really big hit they got a whiff, or a double play, or a weak grounder. How depressing…
Delgado did have a nice game… I mentioned the homer, but he had a great at-bat in the bottom of the ninth only to get screwed by homeplate umpire Gary Darling when he called ball four a strike and punched him out to end the game. Delgado was pissed… So was I…
Castillo and Church both had a couple of hits, and Church laid down one of the best bunts for a hit that I’ve seen in a long time. It was pure perfection.
Our 3-4-5-6 hitters are each hitting well over .300 and yet the offense is just sputtering along. Great individual stats if you got any of them on your fantasy team, but in real life they just aren’t playing like a team. When will this madness end?
The Brewers come into town for a weekend series and the word is Willie will be looking for some sweet revenge. Heath Bell came into Citi Field saying I want me some Mets, and he kicked ass.
How come we don’t have any bravado, no moxie, no swagger. Gimme some damn trash talk and can the choir boy acts.
Go out there and sweep those damned Brewers! Lets Go Mets!
