Game Summary

The Mets (8-10) were unable to complete a sweep of the Washington Nationals (4-13) thanks to another dismal performance lefthander Olive Perez. Jordan Zimmermann stymied the Mets offense as they were literally handcuffed this afternoon and unable to mount any credible rally.

Mets Pitching

What can I say about Oliver Perez that you haven’t already heard? The voices of reason did say that this is exactly what would happen, but after seeing Burnett, Lowe, Wolf and others, sign with new teams, Perez. looked batter and better. It’s not the first time I’ve been wrong about something. But I’m not the GM, Omar is and he should get some heat regardless of what I originally thought.  Perez lasted just 4.1 innings pitched and allowed 7 earned runs on 9 hits and 3 walks. His 9.31 ERA is the worst in the league for pitchers who have started at least four games.

Casey Fossum followed Perez and was just as brutal, allowing a run on 3 hits and 3 walks in just 2.2 innings pitched. He has not shown any signs of effectiveness since being call up, and the Mets decided enough was enough and DFA’d him after the game.

Pedro Feliciano and Brian Stokes pitched a scoreless inning each to end the game. Stokes has yet to allow a run in 9.1 innings.

Mets Hitting

The Mets only managed six hits today. Carlos Delgado drove in the only runner, Carlos Beltran, to account for the only run of the game.

Random Thoughts

Lets send Oliver Perez to the bullpen or better yet, to Buffalo and don’t let him back until he has achieved some level of success or improvement. I know we own him, but that doesn’t mean we have to keep throwing him out there and throwing games away does it?

Game Ball

I’m going to give it to the poor fans who paid to see a good game and instead had to endure a a slow-paced terrible performance by Ollie.
