The Mets pulled out their first win since March 6, beating the Washington Nationals Saturday afternoon by a score of 9-7.

The Mets offense put on a rally late in the eighth inning, scoring three runs, which was enough to secure the win.

Pitching:

A.J. Griffin  toed the rubber for the Mets to start the game off. Griffin pitched 1.1 innings, gave up five hits, two earned runs, no walks and struck out one.

Rafael Montero, who has had quite the rollercoaster of a career as Met, pitched OK after relieving Griffin, but still wasn’t very promising. Montero pitched 2.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up a home run to Adam Eaton to tie the game at 3-3.

Anthony Swarzak had a nice return on the mound today, pitching one clean inning. He was sidelined for two weeks, nursing a left calf strain.

Hansel Robles looked good in his first inning of work out of the ‘pen, striking out the side. Robles struggled in his second inning of work, however, giving up three earned runs on a home run by Moises Sierra to put the Nationals ahead 6-5. He also walked two batters.

Drew Smith pitched one inning giving up no runs and just one hit.

Corey Taylor earned the save for the Mets, but gave up two hits and one earned run.

Offense:

The Mets scored their first run on a wild pitch from Tanner Roark to make it 1-0 in the second inning of play.

Brandon Nimmo reached first base on a throwing error by Chris Dominguez which opened the door to score two more runs which then made it 3-0.

In the fifth, Wilmer Flores clobbered a two-run homer off  right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson to get the Mets ahead with a two-run lead.

In the eighth, the Nationals gave the lead right back with an RBI single by catcher Tomas Nido to tie the game at 6-6.

The next batter, Luis Guillorme, dragged a sacrifice bunt to score Phillip Evans to make it a 7-6 Mets advantage. Matt den Dekker hit a single on a sharp ground ball to center field to score two more runs making it 9-6.
