Pitching

Noah Syndergaard retired the first two hitters easily in the first, but singles from Didi Gregorious and Giancarlo Stanton put runners on the corners. However, the righty was able to get Aaron Hicks to ground out and strand a pair.

Syndergaard struck out Greg Bird, and worked around a Miguel Andujar infield single in a scoreless second inning.

The Yankees led off the third with singles from Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge. Syndergaard battled to get Gregorious to pop out, but a Stanton sacrifice fly cut the lead to 4-1. Hicks then lined a two out single, but Gary Sanchez popped out to get Syndergaard out of the inning.

Andujar lined a one out single in the fourth, but Syndergaard struck out Neil Walker and Brett Gardner grounded out to first to end the inning.

Syndergaard worked around a Judge leadoff single, and struck out Stanton in a scoreless bottom of the fifth. He did show diminished velocity in the fifth which brought out manager Mickey Callaway and the trainer, Syndergaard stayed in the game to finish the inning.

Syndergaard allowed one run on eight hits, struck out four and walked none. He threw 84 pitches with 52 of them coming for strike and lowered his season ERA to 2.89.

Seth Lugo pitched the sixth inning, allowing two runs that was highlighted by a two-run single ff the bat of former Met Neil Walker to narrow the Mets lead to 6-3.

Lugo pitched in and out of bases loaded trouble in the seventh inning.

Robert Gsellman struck out Gary Sanchez with two runners on in the bottom of the eighth to limit the damage and hold the Mets lead at 6-5. An error by Amed Rosario paved the way for two unearned runs in the inning.

Gsellman picked up his fifth save of the season following a scoreless ninth inning.
