The New York Mets (52-67) set a franchise record in runs as they beat the Philadelphia Phillies (66-54) 24-4 on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park. The game was the second Facebook Live exclusive broadcast that the Mets have participated in this year.
They also set a franchise record with 25 hits in a 9-inning game.
Pitching
Corey Oswalt (2-2, 5.16 ERA) got the nod in this game looking to keep up his recent solid pitching. He did struggle a little in this one however, as he gave up the second-most runs out of any of his starts this season.
Following a perfect first inning, he ran into trouble in the second inning as he gave up two solo home runs to put the Mets behind by 2-1.
After re-taking the lead in the top of the third, Nick Williams took Oswalt deep in the bottom of the third to tie things at three.
The Mets helped out his cause by scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth, but the Phillies got a little closer as Jorge Alfaro hit the team’s fourth solo homer off of Oswalt in the bottom of the inning.
Oswalt finished his day off with a couple of scoreless innings to end the day with six innings pitched, nine hits, four runs, one walk and two strikeouts.
Jerry Blevins took over in the seventh inning and turned in a perfect frame with a strikeout.
Jacob Rhame then came into the game in the eighth and went two scoreless innings for the Mets to end the game.

Offense
The Mets came off a victory over the Baltimore Orioles last night in which they scored 16 runs. The offense exploded for the second day in a row as they cranked out 24 runs this time around.
Amed Rosario set the mood in the first inning when he hit his sixth home run of the season on the first pitch of the game.
Rosario tied the game in the third inning with a RBI single to right field. Later in the inning Todd Frazier drove in Rosario with a bases-loaded walk to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.
The Mets put up another two-spot in the fourth inning to give them a lead they would not relinquish. Rosario hit another RBI single which ended up scoring two thanks to a throwing error by Maikel Franco.
The Mets offense absolutely erupted in the fifth inning as the team combined for 10 runs on seven hits and three walks. The biggest hit of the inning was a grand slam off the bat of Jose Bautista. The inning was also filled with plenty of miscues from the Phillies including a balk, a throwing error and a fielding error.
Michael Conforto and Kevin Plawecki gave the Mets two more runs with a solo shot and RBI single, respectively in the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning the Mets scored five more runs off the Phillies from a couple of bases-loaded walks from Bautista and Jose Reyes, as well as a RBI double from Plawecki and a RBI single from Blevins.
The Mets finished their scoring in the ninth as Wilmer Flores tied their franchise record for runs scored in a game with a RBI single and Bautista broke it with a RBI double.
