The New York Mets (49-66) defeated the Miami Marlins (48-71) in the rubber game of a three-game series in Miami by a score of 4-3.
Pitching
Noah Syndergaard pitched for the Mets today and was pretty solid. He gave up a run in the first inning but was solid after that.
The big righty retired the side 1-2-3 in both the second and third inning. In the fourth though, he gave up an RBI single to Mets killer, Bryan Holaday.
After a scoreless fifth, Holaday struck again with an RBI single in the sixth. Syndergaard rebounded to pitch a scoreless seventh and it finished his outing. His final line read: 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K.
Robert Gsellman pitched a scoreless eighth while working around a hit.
Seth Lugo pitched the ninth for a save while working around two hits in the inning.
Offense
Amed Rosario walked (he had two on the day) to lead off the game and subsequently stole second. Wilmer Flores drove in the first Mets run with a sacrifice fly.
In the second, Jose Reyes hit a two-run homer to give the Mets a 3-1 lead at the time.
Michael Conforto homered in the sixth for the final run of the game for the Mets. It ended up being the difference maker.
On Deck
The Mets will head to Yankee Stadium tomorrow night to play their crosstown rivals for the final time this season in a makeup game from July 22 rainout. Jacob deGrom (6-7, 1.77 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets while the Yankees will counter with Luis Severino (15-5, 3.11 ERA). The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will air on ESPN.
