The New York Mets (46-64) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (49-64) 6-4 on Monday evening. The Mets offense collected 16 hits off Reds pitching and the six runs scored proved to be enough for a Mets victory. Attendance was reported at 21,644.

Pitching

Noah Syndergaard allowed a one out single to Joey Votto in the first, but struck out Eugenio Suarez to end the inning.

Again in the third, Votto singled and Gennett walked with two outs, but Syndergaard struck out Suarez again to end the inning.

Syndergaard easily cruised through the first six innings, but his control started to slip in the seventh.

He retired Tucker Barnhart to lead off the seventh but hit Preston Tucker and Philip Ervin with pitches. Billy Hamilton then singled to right, loading the bases with only one out. Jose Peraza plated Tucker with a single, shaving the Mets lead to 6-1.

Peraza would be the final batter Syndergaard would face as Callaway would summon Bobby Wahl from the bullpen to face Votto with the bases loaded and one out. Votto would fight off a couple of pitches, and win the battle as he worked a walk, scoring Ervin to inch the Reds inch closer and make it 6-2.

Wahl struck out Gennett and was double switched out of the game with Robert Gsellman taking over the pitching duties. Suarez hit a soft a single off G-Man scoring Hamilton and Peraza as the Reds creep closer to the Mets 6-4 lead.

Thor’s final stat line was 6.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO. He tossed 96 pitches with 63 of them being for strikes.

Gsellman had an economical eighth inning as he retired all three Reds using only four pitches.

Jerry Blevins was called in for a save chance in the ninth inning. After falling behind Hamilton 3-1, Blevins got him to pop out just in front of the pitchers mound. Blevins jammed Peraza as he blooped out to second. Blevins secured his first save of the year as Votto grounded out to first an 0-2 pitch.

Hitting

The New York Mets got to Reds starter Homer Bailey early by putting up a three spot in the first inning. Amed Rosario and Jeff McNeil hit back-to-back singles to start the game. Wilmer Flores singled in Rosario to give the Mets a 1-0 lead with no outs.

After Michael Conforto struck out, Todd Frazier singled in McNeil to make the score 2-0. Brandon Nimmo hit into a fielder’s choice advancing Flores to third. Austin Jackson hit a ground ball that was deflected off Eugenio Suarez scoring Flores to extend the lead for Thor 3-0.

The first two Mets reached base to lead off the third inning when Flores and Conforto hit back-to-back singles. Both base runners would advance a base each on a sacrifice fly by Frazier. Nimmo hit a ground ball to the first base side but halfway to the bag Votto threw out Flores at home by a large margin.

Plawecki hit his third homerun of the year to lead off the fourth inning making the score 4-0. Thor singled but was erased from the base paths when Rosario hit into a fielder’s choice for the first out.

McNeil singled which advanced Rosario to third. Rosario scored on Flores’ third hit of the game further padding the lead to 5-0.

McNeil launched a solo home run in the sixth making the score 6-0. Flores was hit by a pitch and Conforto singled but Frazier flied to center to end the inning.

McNeil, Jackson, and Flores all has three hit games on the night.
