Mets played a pair of split-squad games this afternoon while losing both to the Detroit Tigers at First Data Field, and a close one at Walt Disney World against the Atlanta Braves.

Tigers 14, Mets 4

Pitching

Zack Wheeler made his spring debut this afternoon. He pitched one inning, gave up one hit, two unearned runs crossed the plate.

Jeurys Familia made his first appearance of the spring, coming in after Wheeler in the second inning. Familia pitched one inning, gave up two hits and two runs (zero earned).

Justin Wilson made his debut, giving up an earned run while striking out two.

Seth Lugo struck out one batter, gave up one hit, and walked one in his inning of work.

Robert Gsellman struggled in the fifth inning, infielder Gordon Beckham hit a two-run double off of Gsellman which scored two more runs for the Tigers making it 7-2.

Kyle Dowdy, Sean Burnett, and Eric Hanhold struggled to combine for six earned runs within the last three innings of the game.

Offense

On the offensive side, the Mets could only push four runs across the plate.

In the bottom of the second inning, Mets scored their first run of the game with an RBI double from outfielder Rajai Davis. Next, Arismendy Alcantara flew out to left field for a sacrifice fly to score the second run of the inning to cut the deficit 4-2.

Davis got the start in center field, went 2-for-3 including his first home run of the year.

Robinson Cano and Amed Rosario each had two hits in the game.

Brandon Nimmo was in the lineup for the first time this spring. He played the whole game as a DH and went 1-for-5 with a single.

Braves 4, Mets 3

Pitching

Corey Oswalt pitched two perfect innings to start off the game against Atlanta including striking out two batters.

Hector Santiago struck out four batters and gave up one run in two innings of work.

Drew Gagnon was roughed up giving up three runs on four hits in two innings.

Chris Flexen and Steve Villines pitched a scoreless inning each giving up no earned runs to close out the game.

Offense

Rymer Liriano and Braxton Lee each drove in a run with a single. Luis Guillorme went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game.

Sebastian Espino hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the ninth to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Mets came up short with runners at first and third with two outs.

Pete Alonso played first base, he went 1-for-3, he has a 1.233 OPS through four games.

On Deck

The Mets will be playing at First Data Field tomorrow against the Miami Marlins for the first time this year. Steven Matz will be on the hill making his first spring start. Game time will be at 1:10 pm and will be televised on SNY.
