The New York Mets (16-16)  were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers (18-16) tonight at Miller Park by the score of 3-1.

Pitching:

Steven Matz opened up the road trip against the Brewers tonight, hurling six innings, allowing three earned runs, struck out three batters, and walked one.

Robert Gsellman was called in from the bullpen in the sixth inning, with no one on base having two outs to work with. Lorenzo Cain grounded out to end the bottom of the sixth. Gsellman continued on into the seventh with a scoreless inning, getting first-baseman Jesus Aguilar to ground-out into a double play to still keep the Mets trailing at a 3-1 deficit.

Luis Avilan took over the pitching in the bottom of the eighth. He faced three batters, allowing only one hit. Mickey Callaway took him out of the game due to an apparent injury, so Avilan left the game with only being responsible for the man at third.

Drew Gagnon came in to try to salvage the last out of the eighth, which he did successfully getting Orlando Arcia to ground-out to third.

Offense:

The New York Mets offense looked completely puzzled at the plate, arguably facing one of the worst pitching staffs in the National League right now.

Wilson Ramos muscled a RBI single into right field, which scored the first run of the game. Robinson Cano came around to score, Michael Conforto to third.

Down to their last three outs the Mets tried to make some noise against Josh Hader to try and make a comeback. Michael Conforto lead off the inning with a double, next batter Wilson Ramos walked to make it runners at first and second with no outs. But, the offense unfortunately weren’t able to cash in as Hader was able to strike out the next three batters in order.

There were only seven hits collected the entire game. The Mets were 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position. The last 16 games the Mets have batted .192 in those situations.

On Deck:

The New York Mets will go forward with their second game of the series tomorrow night as Zack Wheeler (2-2, 5.05 ERA) will take the mound against Ex-Nationals nemesis Gio Gonzalez (0-0, 3.60 ERA). First pitch will be at 7:05 pm EST time.
