The New York Mets tonight at Citi Field (11-2) lost their second game of the season against the Milwaukee Brewers (8-7) with a final score of 5-1. This is the first time the Mets have lost a game since the 5-1 loss to the Cardinals.
Pitching
Matt Harvey was on the mound making his third start of the season against the Brewers. In the first, he had a quick 1-2-3 inning.
Things were starting to get shaky in the second, Jonathan Villar hit an opposite three-run homer to left field for his first home run of the year to make it a 3-0 lead early for the Brew Crew.
Then in the fourth, Harvey gave up a solo home run to catcher Jett Bandy to make it a 4-o.
Harvey was pulled after the fifth inning. This was his 11th straight start with five innings or fewer pitched. Harvey’s final line was 5.o innings, 8 hits, 6 SO, 4 ER, and gave up 1 walk.
Paul Sewald pitched three perfect innings in relief while striking out five.
Hansel Robles gave up a solo home run to shortstop Orlando Arcia in the ninth inning.
Offense
The Mets bats were quiet for five innings against right-hander Chase Anderson.
In the fifth inning, Amed Rosario got the Mets first base hit with a grounder up the middle.
Yoenis Cespedes got the Mets on the board in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single off of Chase Anderson.
Mets bats were shut down for the rest of the night from the Brewers bullpen with lefty Josh Hader striking out five in two perfect innings to close the game out.
On Deck
Mets will be facing the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday for the finale of the three-game series. Noah Syndergaard
will be on the mound looking for his third win of the season. The Mets will be facing right-hander Jhoulys Chacin in a 1:10 p.m. start.
