The New York Mets (13-5) fell to the Atlanta Braves (11-7) by a score of 12-4 at SunTrust Park on Thursday. The Mets are now 2-4 in their last six games after starting the season 11-1.

Pitching

Matt Harvey (0-2, 6.00 ERA) made his fourth start of the season. It was his longest start of the young season, but it was also one in which he gave up the most runs. His final line was six innings pitched, eights hits, six runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

Harvey’s woes began in the first inning as he gave up three runs between a Freddie Freeman sac fly and a Kurt Suzuki home run.

He was able to settle down in the second inning before giving up three more runs in the third inning.

For the next three innings, Harvey completely turned things around by retiring nine of the next 10 batters he faced.

Jerry Blevins began the seventh inning and promptly set down the first two batters he faced. However, he then gave up two singles, a walk, and a bases-clearing RBI double which scored three.

Gerson Bautista came in for Blevins and recorded the final out, but not before giving up an RBI double and a walk. He came back out for the eighth inning and gave up his first two MLB earned runs on a sac fly and double.

Offense

The Mets struggled to get anything started early in this game. Matt Wisler (1-0, 1.29 ERA), who made his 2018 debut, kept the Mets from getting a hit for the first 3 2/3 innings before Asdrubal Cabrera reached base safely with a single in the fourth inning.

Todd Frazier finally got the Mets on the board in the fifth inning with a solo homer to center field.

Like yesterday the Mets made the most noise in the eighth inning, but unlike yesterday they did not score nine runs. Adrian Gonzalez started off the inning with a solo shot of his own to left-center field. Brandon Nimmo later walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run. The Mets’ third and final run then came on a Cabrera sac fly.

Gonzalez had the best offensive night and was the only Met to have a multi-hit game. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI and run scored.
