In the night cap of the doubleheader, despite a five-run sixth inning, the New York Mets and the Houston Astros ended in a 7-7 tie on Friday night at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach.

Pitching

Robert Gsellman worked around a Luis Guillorme error in a scoreless first inning. He then retired the Astros in order in the second needing only 19 pitches. However, in the third Gsellman ran into some trouble as he allowed three runs on three hits.

One of the runs came in on a Jake Marisnick steal of home, as defensively the Mets botched the good ole double steal play. Alex Bregman drove in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Corey Oswalt allowed a leadoff hit in the fourth, however he rolled a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning. In the fifth, George Springer turned on a down and in breaking ball for a two run home run.

After being handed the lead, Jamie Callahan struggled in the sixth. He allowed a hit and walked three straight batters to load the bases, and force in a run. Callahan bounced back nicely with a pair of strikeouts to get out of the inning, and keep the 7-6 lead.

Tyler Bashlor tossed a 1-2-3 seventh, and Gerson Bautista followed it up with a scoreless eighth. Bautista struck out a pair, and hit 98 MPH in his inning of work.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth, Jack Mayfield took Kevin McGowan deep to tie the game at seven.

Hitting

The Mets jumped on Gerritt Cole early, as Brandon Nimmo singled up the middle on the first pitch of the game. He then went first to third on a Yoenis Cespedes single the other way. A batter later, Nimmo scored on an Asdrubal Cabrera fielders choice.

Leading off the fourth, Wilmer Flores reached on a error and d’Arnaud singled. Two batters later, Guillorme brought home Flores with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, the Mets rallied to score five runs and take the lead. Travis d’Arnaud singled, and Kevin Kaczmarski reached on a fielders choice, sparking the rally. After fighting off a pair of 3-2 pitches, Luis Guillorme lined a two out, two run double to left.

Guillorme then came around to tie the game on a Zach Borenstein RBI single. Borenstein then scored from first as Brandon Nimmo tripled, extending the lead to 6-5. A batter later Ty Kelly singled home Nimmo capping off the two out rally, and giving the Mets a 7-5 lead.

*Yoenis Cespedes played four innings in left field in his return from shoulder soreness.
