The New York Mets (18-20) defeated the Miami Marlins (10-28) on Friday night at Citi Field by the score of 11-2. The Mets are now 4-0 against Miami this season.

Pitching

Zack Wheeler pitched seven dominant innings allowing only two earned runs on nine hits, struck out eleven batters, and walked only one batter. It was the second straight game of double-digit strikeouts for Wheeler, the first time he’s done that in his career.

Tyler Bashlor pitched a scoreless eighth inning, allowing only one base-runner on a walk.

Daniel Zamora threw a scoreless ninth to close out the game thanks to a couple of terrific plays by J.D. Davis, Amed Rosario, and Dominic Smith.

Offense

The Mets had one of their biggest offensive games of the year collecting fifteen hits against Miami pitching. For the first time in 40 years they scored eight runs in the first inning. The 15 hits set a new season-high.

Jeff McNeil lead off the first inning with a hustle bunt single, to get a offensive rally started. J.D. Davis scored on a wild pitch scoring the first run of the game.

Wilson Ramos came up to bat with a bases-loaded situation, he drove in the second run of the game beating out a soft infield single to the third-baseman Martin PradoBrandon Nimmo walked with the bases loaded, tacking on the third run of the inning, Pete Alonso comes into score.

Amed Rosario delivered a opposite field grand slam to dead-center field clearing the bases and giving the Mets a seven run lead. Three batters later, Robinson Cano capped off a much-needed offensive rally by driving in Jeff McNeil for the eighth run of the inning.

In the top of the second inning, Michael Conforto smashed a solo homer into the Coca Cola Corner right field seats giving the Mets a 9-0 lead.

Jeff McNeil homered for his second home run of the year extending the lead to eight. Brandon Nimmo muscled a single into center field, giving the Mets an 11-2 cushion.

Davis and Conforto each had three hit games, while McNeil was on base four times.

The New York Mets will be playing their second game of the series on Saturday against the Miami Marlins, our ace Jacob deGrom (2-4, 3.60 ERA) will be toeing the rubber as he opposes one of Miami’s top young pitchers, Sandy Alcantara (1-3, 4.93 ERA). The game will be televised on PIX 11 with a 7:10 p.m. start time.
