After more than a two hour rain delay, the Mets took the rubber game against the A’s with a convincing 4-1 win thanks to a solid effort by Chris Capuano and more timely hitting by Jose Reyes.
Game Notes
Chris Capuano gave the Mets six shutout innings, before leaving the game with a cramp in his right side, according to Sandy Alderson. Cappy scattered five hits and kept the A’s in check throughout his stint, striking out seven and walking none. Capuano has not given up a first-inning run in 14 starts this year. The left-hander has been one of Alderson’s best offseason signings and has really stepped up his performance of late with four straight quality starts.
Pedro Beato blew the shutout and gave up a run in two innings after replacing Capuano. K-Rod then got back on the horse after blowing the save last night and retired the side on seven pitches in the ninth. Rodriguez picks up the 20th save of the season.
Jose Reyes led the offense again with two RBI and run scored in a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Reyes had a hand in three of the Mets four runs and is now hitting .338 with 31 RBIs.
Daniel Murphy batted cleanup and banged out three hits while driving in a run. It’s a good sign for Murph, who had been struggling on this homestand.
The Mets were 4-8 with RISP. They finish the six-game homestand with a 3-3 record, beating the A’s in the last two of the three-game series.

On Deck
The Mets hit the road and fly to Arlington to face the defending American League champs, the Texas Rangers, for a three-game series. Game one is tomorrow night with Mike Pelfrey going against Matt Harrison. Dallas Mavericks star and NBA champion Dirk Nowitzki will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
