According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, New York Mets starting third baseman Todd Frazier is on track to “begin a rehab assignment in the next couple of days,” as per Mets’ skipper Mickey Callaway.

Frazier, 32, has been on the disabled list since July 9 with a left rib cage muscle strain. This is his second stint on the DL this season (May 8 to June 5 with a left hamstring strain).

The Mets signed Frazier to a two-year, $17 million deal this past offseason with team captain David Wright not being anywhere near game-ready and a glaring hole to fill at third.

This season the Toms River, NJ native is slashing .217/.300/.385 with 10 home runs, 32 runs batted in, and a 90 OPS+.
