frank francisco closer

Mets just announced that RHP Frank Francisco underwent surgery today to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

Francisco is expected to begin throwing in six weeks and is expected to be ready for Opening Day of the 2013 season.

Francisco didn’t pitch after Sept 16 after being diagnosed with right elbow soreness, and the Mets insisted that he would be fine with just rest this offseason. Obviously that was not the case.

Wonder why they waited 2 1/2 months to figure it out? This may delay his Spring, but luckily relievers don’t require that much time to get ready for the season anyway.
