Mets star shortstop acquisition Francisco Lindor came into Friday afternoon’s matchup against the Cardinals with a .280/.357/.400 batting line in his first spring training as a Met, a solid but underwhelming mark considering what we know he’s capable of.

However, Lindor quickly silenced any doubters by crushing a first-pitch fastball to right field in the fourth inning of Friday’s game for a grand slam that put the Mets up 7-0. Lindor singled earlier in the game, and came out of Friday’s 8-5 win with his spring training batting line up to .310/.375/.517.

The home run was Lindor’s second of the spring, and first grand slam.

Of course, it’s important to remember that it’s just spring training and that fans shouldn’t overreact too much one way or the other. Still, it’s nice to see Lindor heat up and have a big game like that as the season progressively draws nearer. If any fans were actually starting to develop any doubts about Lindor, he quickly proved that he’s game-ready on Friday.

Lindor’s name has been active in extension talks, and while Lindor confirmed on Tuesday that these talks have started, he clarified that there’s “nothing serious” yet. With 13 days left until the season starts, it will be interesting to see if something gets done before then, and Mets fans were certainly be waiting eagerly with anticipation.
