Rawlins announced the 2023 Gold Glove finalists on Wednesday afternoon, and some new faces are now in contention for the award. For the second consecutive season, the New York Mets have one finalist, this time being shortstop Francisco Lindor. The team was represented by Tomás Nido last year, who was one of the finalists for Gold Glove at the catcher position in the NL.

Rawlings Gold Glove Awards are calculated based on a combination of voting by managers/coaches and SABR Defensive IndexTM. Let’s take a look at the finalists for each position in the American League and the National League for the 2023 season.

For the first time in his Mets career, Lindor has been named as a finalist for the Gold Glove at shortstop. He won the award as a member of the Cleveland Guardians in 2016 & 2019, building a reputation as one of the best defenders at his position. Lindor is up against Swanson, who won the award as a member of the Atlanta Braves last year, and Tovar, who showed a ton of promise in his first big league season with the Colorado Rockies.

One important note in the National League revolves around St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, who has won a Gold Glove in each of his first ten seasons. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Ryan McMahon and Austin Riley will be the first non-Arenado winner in the NL since Chase Headley won it as a member of the San Diego Padres back in 2012.

Since 2000, David Wright (2007 & 2008), Carlos Beltrán (2006-2008) and Juan Lagares (2014) are the only players to win a Gold Glove as a Met. Lindor will be looking to end that drought when the winners are announced on ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” show on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
