Late on Thursday evening, MLB Pipeline updated their top-100 prospect rankings and team-specific top-30 lists. This following Baseball America’s update earlier in the day. In the most recent edition of Pipeline’s rankings, the New York Mets have five prospects. This is the third most of any team in the league, only the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates, each with six, have more.

Of the five Mets inside the top 100, two were acquired at the trade deadline. Those being Luisangel Acuña (Max Scherzer trade) and Drew Gilbert (Justin Verlander trade). They check in at No. 40 and 57, respectively. This duo are the two-highest rated in the organization.

Each of the remaining three are homegrown prospects New York developed themselves. Jett Williams (2022 first-round pick) checks in at No. 84, while Ronny Mauricio (international free agent) and Kevin Parada (2022 first-round pick) check in at No. 93 and 96, respectively.

As for changes from MLB Pipeline’s previous edition (May of 2023), New York owned five of the league’s top-100 prospects before Brett Baty graduated. That left the organization with only Kevin Parada (No. 28), Alex Ramírez (No. 82), Jett Williams (No. 91), and Ronny Mauirico (No. 97). As you can see, Parada fell 68 spots and Ramírez (.676 OPS with High-A Brooklyn) is no longer in the newest edition’s top 100. Meanwhile, Williams and Mauricio moved up slightly.

A couple Mets likely just outside the MLB Pipeline top 100 are Ryan Clifford (Verlander trade) and Colin Houck (2023 MLB Amateur Draft). On the team-specific rankings, which MLB Pipeline also updated, they check in at No. 6 and 7 in the organization, respectively.

In addition to Acuña, Gilbert, and Clifford other deadline acquisitions that rank inside the team’s updated top 30 are Marco Vargas (David Robertson trade) at No. 8, Justin Jarvis (Mark Canha trade) at No. 15, Ronald Hernandez (Robertson trade) at No. 20, Jeremiah Jackson (Dominic Leone trade) at No. 22, and Coleman Crow at No. 29 (Eduardo Escobar trade). Note, Crow recently underwent Tommy John surgery.

As mentioned, Houck is by far the highest rated of the Mets’ 2023 draft class, but the updated top 30 also features a few other selections. Second-round pick Brandon Sproat checks in at No. 14. Meanwhile, two-way player Nolan McLean (third-round pick) and pitcher Kade Morris (third-round pick) rank at 23rd and 30th, respectively.

Of differences from the above mentioned newest updated Baseball America top 100 dropped earlier Thursday, Pipeline did not include Ryan Clifford while Baseball America did. Additionally, Baseball America did not include Ronny Mauricio nor Kevin Parada while each check in the back-end of Pipeline’s top 100.

As you can see, the Mets system continues to trend up. According to these updated rankings, the team added eight new top-30 prospects (four in the team’s top 10) before the deadline and selected four more during the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft. It may be a disappointing year in terms of performance of the big club on the field, however, the future is certainly trending upward, and quickly.
