Jeurys - Familia

In his first full season in the big leagues, Jeurys Familia has been outstanding to say the least.

The 24 year old has established himself as a key component to the success of the Mets bullpen this season and is being thrown into the conversation of being the closer of the future for the Amazin’s.

In 61 appearances so far in 2014, Familia has pitched to a 1.93 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and .208 BAA over a span of 65.1 innings pitched.

Familia is a guy that we have heard so much about over the last few years. He has the potential to be a stud out of the bullpen for years to come and now it looks like we are finally seeing it come true.

Every time Familia steps on the mound, I feel increasingly more comfortable and certain that he will escape any jam that he has inherited and in fact he seemingly does.

When you look at the competition going into spring next year, you have three very talented pitchers competing for the closer job in Jenrry Mejia, Bobby Parnell and Familia. It’s not a bad problem to have. In fact, and it shows just how promising and strong our ‘pen is and will hopefully be for years to come, built on the foundation of young arms like Familia.

Just the idea of having a 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th combo of Vic Black, Bobby Parnell, Jeurys Familia and Jenrry Mejia to finish off games makes me all giddy. And that’s not even including guys like Josh Edgin, Carlos Torres and the other young arms we have on the horizon.

Familia looks like he’s found a home and a role with the Mets and we are certainly fortunate to have him.
