Farm Report: Black Monday – All Four Teams Go Down In Defeat

Indianapolis 8, Buffalo 6

With the game tied in the top of the ninth inning Monday night, LHP Josh Edgin allowed two Indianapolis runs to score, and the Bisons dropped their second straight game to the Indians, 8-6.

Edgin (1-2, 5.40) took the loss, going one inning and allowing one hit and two runs.

LHP Garret Olson started the game for Buffalo. He went four innings, allowed seven hits, five runs and walked three while striking out five. His ERA stands at 4.24.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. 1B Jeff Clement led the inning off with a double and later scored on a C Jose Morales single. SS Jordy Mercer later scored on a 2B Anderson Hernandez single.

In the bottom of the third inning, however, Buffalo’s bats came alive. SS Omar Quintanilla led the inning off with a solo homer to right center-field. Quintanilla finished the game 1-for-3 and is hitting .278.

Then, CF Corey Wimberly slashed a one-out double and later scored on LF Fred Lewis’ single. Lewis stole second base and then scored on RF Valentino Pascucci’s double.

However, after Buffalo spotted Olson a one-run lead, the Indians responded with a three-run fourth.

Trailing 6-3, Buffalo scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to tie the game, 6-6, before Edgin allowed the game-winning runs in the top of the ninth inning. 1B Josh Satin drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, but Pascucci grounded into a double-play to end the game.

Lewis finished the game 2-for-5 while Satin went 2-for-3.

Herd Rumblings: Buffalo (26-19) looks to win the final game of the four-game series against Indianapolis at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday. South-paw Jo-Jo Reyes (5-1, 2.09) makes the start for the Indians, and righty Chris Schwinden (3-2, 2.54) goes for the Herd. (Follow @aobrien7 on Twitter for live updates during the afternoon game.)

New Britain 10, Binghamton 7

A late inning rally by the Binghamton Mets, in the form of five runs in the top of the ninth, came up a little short on Monday night as the visitors dropped game one of their series in New Britain 10-7.

The B-Mets lineup hit for the cycle if you will in the final frame, with a Jefry Marte single, Juan Centeno double, Josh Rodriguez triple, and Raul Reyes home run. Rock Cats closer Daniel Turpen was finally able to stop the B-Mets, getting Juan Lagares to ground out to finish the game.

Raul Reyes had a big night at the plate for the B-Mets with his third multi-hit game in a row. Reyes was 4-for-5 in the game, with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Matt den Dekker’s hitting streak continued, now at 16 games, by way of his 16th double of the season. Den Dekker ended up 1-for-4 on the night, with a walk, a strikeout, and a run scored. Josh Rodriguez was a home run away from hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-5 with two RBI’s.

Mark Cohoon started for the B-Mets, and in taking the loss on Monday night his record now stands at 2-5 with a 3.86 ERA. Cohoon went 4.2 innings for the B-Mets, and allowed seven runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out two.

Armando Rodriguez threw the final 3.1 innings for the B-Mets, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out three.

B-Mets Buzz: The B-Mets, in search of their first win against the Rock Cats in 2012, will send RHP Collin McHugh (4-2, 2.05) to the mound on Tuesday night. His pitching opponent in the game will be Rock Cats LHP Logan Darnell (4-2, 5.27).  McHugh pitched a strong game against the Rock Cats on May 9th; in seven innings he allowed only one run on six hits, striking out five New Britain batters. Unfortunately, the bullpen let him down and the Rock Cats came away victorious by a score of 5-1. In roster moves over the past couple of days, Michael Fisher was assigned to the B-Mets from Buffalo on Sunday, and Rylan Sandoval was assigned to St. Lucie from the B-Mets on Monday.

Daytona 4, St. Lucie 3

In one of the most back breaking losses of the year, the St. Lucie Mets fought hard but could not survive a bullpen implosion in the bottom of the ninth, losing in walkoff fashion by a 4-3 score.

Erik Goeddel got the nod for the Mets and hurled five shutout frames while punching out seven in a hard fought outing that went to waste. Goeddel took a no decision but lowered his ERA to a staggering 1.29 on the year.

Wilmer Flores became the first of the night to draw blood, launching a solo shot to left to give St. Lucie a 1-0 lead. That and a two-out rally highlighted by a double, a walk, two wild pitches and a throwing error to score two, the Mets had a comfortable 3-1 lead going into the ninth. That dominant bullpen can get them through just one half inning right?

Wrong. Adam Kolarek came on to pitch the ninth and gave up two hits and a walk to make it a 3-2 ballgame before being relieved by Taylor Whitenton, who wasn’t much better. Whitenton surrendered a base hit, hit a batter and then finally lost the ballgame on a Greg Rohan sacrifice fly to hand St. Lucie their 10th loss of the year.

Lucie Logistics: RHP Pedro Beato made his first rehab outings, hurling a scoreless sixth while striking out two. Blake Forsythe went 1-for-4 with a double but also had three strikeouts. Alonzo Harris also went 1-for-4 with a double last night and has now hit a two-bagger in each of his last four games. Jason Bay and Josh Thole have been assigned to St. Lucie and will begin their rehab assignments in the coming weeks. The Mets will send Cory Mazzoni (3-0, 3.12) to the hill against Daytona, and right-hander Patrick Francescon (0-0, 0.00) will hurl for the Cubs. The second game of this four-game series is set to start today at 10:35 am.
