FanGraphs recently did an update to their prospects big board following the conclusion of the 2021 MLB Draft and on that list is five prospects from the Mets farm system.

Not only is there five prospects from the Mets system, but FanGraphs has two in the top 20.

No. 7 Francisco Alvarez – C, 60 Future Value

The Mets top prospect has been terrific in 2021 between Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn at just 19-years old. He’s slashing .272/.404/.522 with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and 38 RBIs in 57 combined games. His 11 home runs are tied for second in the Mets minor leagues. Mark Vientos leads with 16.

Alvarez blasted a home run in the Futures Game and reportedly had one of the best batting practices of the entire group.

No. 18 Brett Baty – 3B/LF, 55 Future Value

The 2019 first rounder had a .911 OPS in 51 games for Brooklyn before he was recently promoted to Double-A Binghamton. With Baty and the previously mentioned both in Binghamton, they’re both getting some experience in left field.

No. 31 Ronny Mauricio – SS, 55 Future Value

It’s been an up-and-down season for the newly strengthened shortstop prospect. He’s shown more pop this year (10 home runs compared to 7 in career coming in), but has continued to struggle getting on base as his .284 OBP would tell you.

Despite the Mets signing Lindor and the organization wanting to get versatility out of other top prospects (see Baty and Vientos above), Mauricio has stuck to only shortstop this season.

No. 66 Matt Allan – RHP, 50 Future Value

Unfortunately, the season was over before it started for the Mets’ 2019 third round pick when it was announced he needed Tommy John surgery. Allan is still rated this high given his ceiling, which I belief was raised last year at the alternate site when he significantly improved his changeup.

No. 95 Kumar Rocker – RHP, 50 Future Value

Rocker fell to the Mets at No. 10 in the draft earlier this month, though he hasn’t officially signed with the team yet.

FanGraphs also have 1B/LF/3B Mark Vientos, OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF Khalil Lee, and RHP J.T. Ginn as prospects with a 45 future value in the Mets system.

Checking in with the rest of the NL East; the Braves have two players in FanGraphs’ top 100, the Marlins have four, the Phillies have one, and the Nationals have one.
