Despite some late inning drama, the Mets (15-7) were able to hold on and beat the San Francisco Giants (12-13) at Citi Field this evening by a score of 6-5. In the process, the Mets earned their eighth straight victory.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom got the start for the Mets, and though the young righty didn’t have his best stuff, was able to keep the Mets in the game and turn in six innings, allowing three runs, while striking out five and walking four. The three runs attributed to deGrom were unearned and all came in the third inning.

Jim Henderson came on to pitch the seventh inning, and pitched 2/3rd’s of an inning, putting two on, and being pulled in favor of Addison Reed.

Reed was able to finish off the inning, but got into trouble in the eighth, loading the bases. Terry Collins decided to go to Hansel Robles to tight rope out of danger.

Robles got two outs on sacrifice flies that put the Giants within one run, before Jerry Blevins ended the inning with the lead still in tact.

Offense:

The Mets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by the second with RBI hits from none other than Neil Walker and Michael Conforto respectively.

Michael Conforto, who has been white hot, added his fourth home run of the year in the fifth inning, a solo shot to right field. Conforto went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.

Wilmer Flores then played a little long ball of his own in the sixth inning, launching his first home run of the year to left central, which proved to be the difference.

Lucas Duda also had a nice day at the plate going 2-for-3, as well as drawing a walk.

On deck:

The Mets will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon, with a battle of the aces. Noah Syndergaard (2-0, 1.69 ERA) takes on Madison Bumgarner (2-2, 3.64 ERA) with the first pitch at 1:10 PM.
