Mets’ manager Luis Rojas addressed the media via Zoom on Sunday and said that right-handed pitcher Drew Smith is dealing with shoulder soreness, while right-hander Arodys Vizcaino has experienced elbow soreness.

Rojas said that both pitchers are progressing well, and that Vizcaino could return to game action this upcoming weekend. There is not currently a set timeline for Smith, however.

Smith, 27, appeared in eight games for the Mets during the shortened 2020 season after missing all of 2019 with Tommy John surgery. He has appeared in three games so far this spring and has yet to allow a run.

Vizcaino, 30, came over to the Mets this winter after signing as a non-roster invitee. The longtime Atlanta Brave, Vizcaino’s velocity was up to 95-96 mph while topping out at 97 mph. If he can return to that level going forward, he might be able to hone back in on that success he had during his days with the Braves.
