The Mets have made their first round of cuts this spring, reassigning Dominic Smith and P.J. Conlon as well as seven other players to minor league camp.
Smith, 21, hit a meager .185 in 27 at-bats this spring while fanning 10 times. The first baseman is ranked the Mets second best prospect behind only Amed Rosario, according to MLB.com
Conlon, 23, pitched 7.2 innings this spring while registering a 4.70 ERA. Should the Mets be in need of relief help this season, however, Conlon will be among the names considered.
As well as Smith and Conlon, lefty David Roseboom, righties Corey Taylor, Logan Taylor and Kevin McGowan, infielders Phillip Evans and Luis Guillorme and outfielder Champ Stuart will also head back to minor league camp.
Remaining in big league camp for the time being is top prospect Amed Rosario. Rosario, 21, is hitting at a .280 clip in 25 at-bats so far this spring.
