The Mets announced Tuesday they’ve activated reliever Trevor Gott and 1B/OF DJ Stewart the the major-league roster. In their place, reliever Jeff Brigham and infielder Danny Mendick were optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. To make room for Stewart on the 40-man roster, Denyi Reyes was designated for assignment.

Since joining the big-league team, Mendick started one game and got to the plate seven times—not reaching base on any occasion. Instead, Stewart will provide the Mets with a bench bat with a little more pop. The 29-year-old has 16 home runs and an .878 OPS with Syracuse across 229 plate appearances.

Stewart played with Baltimore for parts of five seasons before signing a minor-league deal with the Mets in the offseason. Buck Showalter was Stewart’s manager during his rookie year in 2018.

Gott, on the other hand, replaces Brigham, who’d struggled in appearances versus Philadephia and Milwaukee over the last week-plus, on the roster. The Mets traded for Gott—and Chris Flexen—from the Mariners on Monday, but the Mets immediately designated Flexen for assignment.

The Mets start a six-game West Coast road trip on Tuesday ahead of the All-Star break. The team won its first series in a month after winning Saturday and Sunday over the San Francisco Giants.
