Dickey Falters As Astros Rocket Past Mets 7-3

The Houston Astros rocketed three home runs to help beat the Mets 7-3 and take the second game of the weekend series at Minute Maid Park, ending the Mets three game winning streak.

Game Notes

R.A. Dickey put the Mets in an early hole when he allowed four runs to score in the first inning. He settled down after that until the sixth when he would serve up a couple of home runs. Dickey pitched 5.1 innings and allowed 11 hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.

Mike O’Connor continues to be effective out of the bullpen and threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning to maintain his perfect 0.00 ERA. However Ryota Igarashi had a rough outing letting up two hits, two walks and homer in 1.2 innings.

The Mets scored their first run when Jose Reyes doubled and scored on a single to right field by Justin Turner, then added an other in the fourth, when Daniel Murphy led off the inning with his third homer of the season, and scored one more time in the ninth when Jose Reyes lined an RBI single to score Jason Pridie.

Jose Reyes collected two hits, including a double and an RBI single.

Incidentally, Justin Turner became the seventh Mets player to hit in the No. 2 position this season. David Wright went 0-3 and is now batting .231 batting third in the Mets lineup.

Chin-lung Hu was called upon to pinch hit again and weakly popped out to first base. He is now batting .053 on the season.

Carlos Beltran was a late scratch with eye irritation.

Turning Point

When Dickey served up two home runs to Bill Hall and Matt Downs in the sixth inning to put the Astros up 6-2, you pretty much could have turned of your TV’s right then.

Game Ball

Daniel Murphy who homered deep to right in the fourth inning and made a couple of fine defensive plays at first base filling in for the injured Ike Davis.
