Pitching

Steven Matz was phenomenal in his first start of the season, lasting six innings, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk, while collecting seven strikeouts.

Jeurys Familia relieved Matz in the seventh, pitching a hitless and scoreless inning.

Dellin Betances would come in for the eighth, lasting two thirds of an inning, allowing a single. Justin Wilson would come in to relieve him but allow a single to Matt AdamsHe would get out of the jam in a big way, punching out Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr.

Unfortunately, Edwin Diaz would blow his first save of the season, giving up a two-out, two-strike home run to Marcell Ozuna

In the tenth, Strickland was the first Mets pitcher to experience the new extra-innings rule. The rule did not serve the Mets well, as Strickland would allow three runs to score on a single and two doubles.

Offense

It was not a great day for the most of the Mets hitters, as the team only drove in three runs on nine hits.

After being no-hit through the first three innings, Michael Conforto would hit a lead-off double in the fourth. Amed Rosario would follow with an RBI triple, tying the game at one. Jeff McNeil would drive in Rosario with a sacrifice fly, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.

The Mets would not score any more runs until the bottom of the tenth inning, where Dom Smith would drive in McNeil with a sacrifice fly.

Both Pete Alonso and Yoenis Cespedes had a rough day at the plate, collecting three strikeouts each.

In the end, Conforto would be the only Mets player with multi-hits in the afternoon, going 3-for-3 with a walk on the afternoon.
