Dellin Betances addressed the media on Tuesday and among the topics he discussed was his health. Betances stated “I’ll be ready for Opening Day.”

The 31-year-old right-handed pitcher indicted that he has thrown a lot of bullpens and feels good.

“I’m not really concerned,” Betances said of his injuries. “I feel good. Like I said, I put in a lot of work this offseason so I’m right where I need to be.”

Betances was limited to one game with the New York Yankees in 2019 due to multiple injuries. He missed the first five-and-a-half months with a shoulder injury and then a latissimus dorsi injury which he sustained as he worked toward returning from the shoulder injury.

Betances returned to the mound on Sept. 15, but suffered a partial tear to his left Achilles tendon as he hopped onto the mound in celebration of his comeback.

The Bronx native joined the the New York Mets on Christmas Eve on a one-year, $10.5 million contract with a 2021 player option and 2022 player vesting option. Betances has an opportunity to increase the value of both options based on the amount of appearances he makes. That makes being healthy on Opening Day go a long way.
