It’s been a whirlwind of the last several days for the Mets and Jacob deGrom. But in the end, the MRI administered on the pitcher came back clean.

“I don’t know that there was really internal debate (on getting Jacob an MRI) as much as we were listening to the player and the training staff” General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. “And we wanted to make sure we were smart and prudent. That’s why we put him on the IL in the first place.”

In addition to the clean MRI, David Lennon of Newday  says that Jacob deGrom “is indeed throwing a bullpen session and appears to be full-steam ahead.” DeGrom was placed on the Injured List on April 20 with right elbow discomfort, retroactive to April 16th.

After his elbow was “barking,” deGrom has seemingly begun to recover quickly. The right-hander was said to have strep throat last week, which can cause soreness in joints and bones. The DeLand, Florida native is currently slated to pitch on Friday, April 26 at home against the Brewers. After not allowing a run in his first two starts of the season, the reigning Cy Young has allowed nine runs in his last nine innings.

With news of the clean MRI and him throwing a successful bullpen session today is as encouraging as news can be for the Mets and their ace. deGrom is 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA on the young season.
